Shopping for eco-friendly sunglasses raises a lot of questions. We get them every day. Here are straight answers to the most common ones.

Are wood sunglasses actually durable?

Yes. Wood and bamboo are naturally flexible and impact-resistant. They don't get brittle in cold weather like cheap plastic does, and they don't warp in heat. A well-made pair with stainless steel spring hinges will last years with basic care.

Do wooden sunglasses float?

Most full-wood frames float in water. Bamboo frames are especially buoyant. If the frame has metal components or heavier acetate fronts, it may not float. Check the materials on each product page.

What does UV400 mean?

UV400 means the lenses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays up to 400 nanometers. This is the highest standard for UV protection in sunglasses. Every pair from Cali Life Co. includes UV400 polarized lenses. Read our full UV400 explainer for more detail.

What is the difference between polarized and UV400?

UV400 refers to UV ray blocking. Polarization reduces glare from reflective surfaces like water, roads, and snow. They serve different purposes. The best sunglasses have both, which is what we include in every pair.

Are bamboo sunglasses better than wood?

Neither is objectively better. Bamboo grows faster and is lighter. Wood has richer grain patterns and a more premium feel. Both are eco-friendly and durable. We wrote a full comparison: Wood vs Bamboo Sunglasses.

What are plant-based sunglasses made from?

Most plant-based sunglasses use bio-acetate, which is made from cotton fibers and wood pulp instead of petroleum plastics. It looks and performs like traditional acetate but biodegrades at end of life. Our plant-based collection uses this material combined with natural wood temples.

How do I clean wooden sunglasses?

Use a soft microfiber cloth for the lenses. For the wood frames, wipe with a slightly damp cloth and let air dry. Once or twice a year, apply a small amount of natural wood oil (like linseed) to keep the grain looking rich. Never use chemical cleaners on wood frames.

Do you offer prescription lenses?

Yes. Check our RX Eyewear page for prescription options in our eco-friendly frames.

What is your return policy?
